Scenarist is a DVD-Video, and Blu-ray Disc authoring system developed by Scenarist, LLC. ==History== Scenarist DVD-Video authoring software was originally sold by Daikin, a Japanese chemical company, which eventually partnered with Sonic Solutions, a US based media authoring software developer, for development and worldwide marketing. The software was translated into English and become the standard package for DVD authoring in Hollywood. Later in 2001, Sonic Solutions acquired all the Scenarist technology and continued to develop and extend the software for Blu-ray Disc and Blu-ray 3D. Today, Scenarist is used to create the vast majority of DVD-Video and Blu-ray Disc titles commercially released to consumers. In 2011, Sonic Solutions was acquired by ROVI Corp, a US based company with vast media metadata and patent holdings for on-screen program guides. In 2013 ROVI shutdown development and technical support of Scenarist authoring software. In 2014, Scenarist, LLC, a US based company consisting of former Sonic Solutions' professional product group executive mangagement, product development and engineering team, acquired all the rights and IP for the Scenarist technology and products. Scenarist, LLC has since restarted development and support for the product line and, as of June 2015, had two major upgrade releases. In 2015, Scenarist, LLC announced that it would develop Scenarist UHD to support the Ultra HD Blu-ray format announced by the Blu-ray Disc Association earlier in 2014. The BDA announced the completion of the new format spec in early 2015. At NAB 2015, Scenarist, LLC made several announcements including a major development deal with DTS, the formation of a Ultra HD Blu-ray focus group (the, UHDG) of high-end authoring facilties , technology companies, and service providers to collaborate in the development of Scenarist UHD, as well as multiple announcements of companies that had joined the UHDG. UHDG members include Philips, DTS, Dolby, Q-Tec Co. LTD (Japan), Deluxe, Craigman Digital, BluFocus, GLS Studios (Germany), D-Studio Services (Belgium), Silver Trak Digital (Australia), Ateme, and others.
